SIVA (Supporting Individuals Through Valued Attachments) is offering a 3-day Train the Trainer Course on November 26, 27 and 28th, 2024:
SIVA (Supporting Individuals Through Valued Attachments) is a Canadian-created safety management course for mental health professionals, residential care providers, educators and caregivers responsible for individuals with special needs who engage in unsafe behaviours. SIVA’s holistic relationship-based model effectively utilizes collaboration, goal-direction, self-management and healthy empowerment to strengthen relationships and create safety. Thousands of professionals and caregivers have embraced the SIVA model as their training program of choice. SIVA has been described as “a refreshing alternative to crisis focused programs.” SIVA is recognized by the Canadian Accreditation Council and agencies who have completed CARF (Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) accreditation have received an exemplary designation for their use of the SIVA program.
During the Trainer Course, participants will receive guided instruction and hands-on experience in learning the hallmark philosophy, guiding principles, applied modules of the SIVA Program and access to the Direct Core Training modules as listed on SIVA’s website.
SIVA has proven to be more cost effective as well as in line with Provincial standards and State standards. Numerous agencies have already made the transition from other systems and have embraced the SIVA model as their training program of choice.
All participants must maintain audio and video presence throughout the training to receive full certification.
The following are new requirements for participating in the training.
Option 1
To complete the Emergency Safety Interventions component of our training in the afternoon of the second day you will be required to engage in the physical emergency safety interventions with another person. The person does not have to be enrolled in the course, the assistant only needs to be an available person that is willing to assist you in practicing the instructed interventions. This section of the course takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hrs. If your assistant is not a known member of your household we request that you follow the COVID 19 standards / precautions of your province or state for close contact interaction. This includes but is not limited to 1) wearing a mask and gloves, 2) ensuring the person has no flu like symptoms (temperature check) and that they have not travelled recently or been exposed to someone with COVID 19 in the past 14 days.
If your employment requires that you be in close contact with clients that may require the use of emergency safety interventions such as a direct care worker or similar, the aforementioned precautions will already be included in your job description and company policy.
Option 2
If you do not have a secondary person to assist you with the emergency safety interventions or you do not want to participate in close contact emergency safety interventions or that your employment does not require that you have the emergency safety interventions component at this time (eg. closed schools), we have the following option:
a) You can complete your Trainer Re-certification with the exception of the Emergency Safety Interventions. Following the training you will be placed on a waiting list for a later free training date at which time you can complete the Emergency Safety Interventions section (provided you have a partner). Thank you for your time and consideration.
